The County Assessor and staff are responsible for identifying, classifying, and valuing all real property and some classes of personal property within the boundaries of the county for ad valorum taxation purposes.
Each assessment period begins on January 2nd of each year for computing the taxes which will be payable the following year. Appeals of the Estimated Market Values and classifications are heard at the Local Board of Appeal and Equalization (LBAE) meetings or open book meetings for each local jurisdiction during the second half of April. Only appeals to the Local Boards are eligible to continuance to the County Board of Appeal and Equalization (CBAE) in June.
So-called mid-year homestead applications are accepted any time up to December 15th for the period between January 1st and December 1st, also for taxes payable the following year. Quintile and new construction inspections are generally made between early summer and late winter for the new assessment year.
