There was absolutely no doubt about the need for upgrades to the Dodge County Highway Department facility at 16 Airport Dr. S., Dodge Center. It was built in 1980.

There will be an open house for the newly renovated facility from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 24 and light refreshments will be served.

County Engineer Guy Kohlnhofer explained that the renovation included modernizing the HVAC system, (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and improving security. Added to the facility were a new fire suppression system, an employee breakroom, office space for the maintenance supervisor, and a locker room. The fuel station was upgraded, a dedicated wash bay was added along with two truck bays and additional truck doors to create pull-through bays. A full truck lift was added to the mechanics area.

An additional pole shed was built to house equipment. A dedicated Sign Shop for sign maintenance operations was incorporated into that building.

The renovations took most of this year to complete.

While the work was being done, office employees worked out of the Dodge County Service Center (Public Health) on Main St. in Dodge Center, while field personnel worked out of the existing pole shed and the remote West Concord shop.
